A Robot That Connects to Your Sink | SwitchBot S20 Review

A Robot That Connects to Your Sink | SwitchBot S20 Review 1

Be honest — how often do you actually mop your floors? Once a week? Once a month? Or maybe… only when guests are coming over?

Let’s face it: cleaning floors feels a lot like going to the gym. Everyone knows it’s good for you, but almost nobody actually wants to do it.

Now imagine if your home could clean itself — mop, rinse, scrub, refill its own water, and even empty the dirty water — all without you lifting a finger.

Sounds futuristic, right? Well, meet the SwitchBot S20. And here’s the crazy part: the most impressive thing about this robot isn’t just how clean your floors get… it’s how well it works with your smart home.

Scrubbing Power That Will Blow Your Mind

The SwitchBot S20 doesn’t just wipe your floors — it scrubs 300 times per minute. That’s 5 scrubs per second!

For comparison, if you were to mop manually, you’d maybe do 30 scrubs per minute on a good day. This robot is literally 10x faster, and it never gets tired.

And that’s just the beginning. Let’s talk about one of the biggest pain points of robot vacuums: hair tangling.

Tangled Hair? Not Anymore

If you’ve ever flipped over a vacuum and found it looked like it swallowed a wig, you know the struggle. Cutting away hair with scissors feels like performing surgery.

This is usually what happened when there is no working anti-tangle hair system.

The S20 fixes this with a Dual Anti-Tangle System. It combines 10,000Pa of suction (which is stronger than most upright vacuums) with patented rubber brushes that remove 99% of dust and prevent hair from tangling in the first place.

That means less maintenance, no scissors, and way less frustration.

RinseSync Technology: Actually Cleaning, Not Smearing

Here’s where it gets really clever. Most robot mops don’t actually clean — they just drag dirty water around like you’re washing your car with a muddy sponge.

The SwitchBot S20 uses RinseSync technology, which wipes and rinses in a 4-step cleaning cycle. The roller spins 300 times per minute with 1kg of downward pressure, keeping consistent force on the floor.

It’s like having a tiny person scrubbing away nonstop — while you relax on the couch.

The Automated MultiClean Station

This is one of my favorite parts. The Automated MultiClean Station refills clean water, empties dirty water, and dries the mop pads with 50°C hot air.

No musty mop smell. No damp pads. No nasty water buckets.

And the trash container? You only need to empty it every 90 days. That’s three months of hands-free cleaning.

The Automated MultiClean Station includes a Diatom Tile

Fun fact: the dock includes a Diatom Tile, made of compressed diatomaceous earth. It absorbs water ridiculously fast, so your robot always docks on a dry surface. Think of it like the luxury bath mat your bathroom wishes it had.

Two Versions of the SwitchBot S20

Here’s something you should know before buying: the S20 comes in two different versions, depending on how “hands-free” you want to go.

  • SwitchBot S20 with Auto-Fill & Drain System
This is the ultimate automation option. It comes with a US and EU extension kit that lets you hook the base station directly into your cold water and waste line — under your sink, in your bathroom, or wherever works. The package includes adapters, plumbing branches, and video instructions. Once installed, you never touch water tanks again.
  • Regular SwitchBot S20
If you don’t want to deal with pipes (or don’t have the space), this version has built-in reservoirs for clean and dirty water. You’ll need to refill and empty them yourself, but you still get all the cleaning features and smart navigation.

So the choice is simple: automation vs. flexibility.

My Installation Experience

You might be wondering: “Plumbing? That sounds complicated.”

Honestly? I’m not a plumber, and it still only took me about 20–30 minutes to install the Auto-Fill & Drain system.

Here’s what surprised me: I didn’t need any extra parts. Everything was in the box — adapters, branches, seals. No teflon tape, no sealing hemp, no extra trips to the hardware store. Every connection has its own rubber gasket.

This box contains every plumbing part that is needed to install the SwitchBot S20

The only tools I used? Two pipe wrenches and a regular screwdriver. That’s it.

The hardest part was simply choosing the best approach — the kit gave me at least two ways to set it up, and I had to pick the right size T-connector for my pipes.

Once it was done, water in, water out — fully automated. And I haven’t thought about it since.

Smart Home Magic

This is where the S20 really shines. It isn’t just a cleaning robot — it’s part of your smart home.

It’s Matter-compatible, works with Apple Home, Google, Alexa, and most importantly… it has native Home Assistant integration.

That means automations. For example:

  • When you leave for work, Home Assistant detects it and automatically starts the deep cleaning cycle.
  • By the time you’re back, the floors are spotless and the mop pads are dry.
  • Or just say: “Hey Siri, deep clean the living room.” Done.

LiDAR & AI Navigation

The S20 doesn’t just wander around. It uses LiDAR laser mapping plus an AI camera to scan your home. It avoids cables, furniture, and other obstacles while building a precise floor map.

It even climbs over 20mm thresholds (about the size of a thick book) without getting stuck.

Honest Drawbacks

Of course, no product is perfect. Here are a few things I noticed:

  • Space Requirements: The base station needs 0.5m on each side and 1m in front. In a small kitchen or entryway, this can be tough.
  • Visible Pipes: If you choose the Auto-Fill & Drain version, the pipes are visible unless you drill holes or hide them in cabinetry. Not the most aesthetic.
  • Short Power Cord: You may need an extension cord.
  • Cleaning Solution Limitation: You have to use SwitchBot’s official cleaning solution (150ml per refill). Two bottles are included, but you can’t use regular floor cleaners. That adds a little ongoing cost.
Not the prettiest setup due to visible pipes, but that is not only valid for SwitchBot S20. You need a special kitchen design to hide them or to drill some holes

That said, none of these are deal-breakers — but they’re worth knowing before you buy.

Why It’s Worth It

Once you set up the SwitchBot S20 (with or without plumbing), it doesn’t just save you time — it gives you professional-level cleaning.

Those 300 scrubs per minute? That’s more than most commercial cleaning services.

And with a 90-day maintenance cycle, you’re only thinking about your robot 4 times a year instead of every single week. That’s hours of your life back, every week.

So ask yourself: do you want just another robot vacuum… or a smart home teammate that cleans better than you, and actually manages itself?

Final Thoughts & Where to Buy

The SwitchBot S20 is the most advanced floor-cleaning robot I’ve tested. Between its scrubbing power, smart station, and deep Home Assistant integration, it’s more than a vacuum — it’s part of your home. If you want to get one, then you can use the affiliate links below:
