I Made My Home Assistant AI Recipes Book Free. Here Is Why.

I made Home Assistant AI Recipes as a real paper book because I wanted the useful Home Assistant AI ideas to escape my computer. A few months later, people have been sending me photos of it beside mini PCs, dashboards, cables, and the occasional very tidy server rack that makes my own desk look guilty.

The book itself is free. The reader covers printing, handling, and shipping. That sounds simple until a copy travels far enough that the print and delivery cost me more than the reader paid. One order did exactly that. It is not a clever business trick. It is the honest reason I wanted to explain what this book is, who it is for, and what “free” means here.

Why I made Home Assistant AI Recipes a paper book

Home Assistant AI Recipes is for the person who wants AI to do one useful job at home, not give a TED Talk from the kitchen. A sensor has a number. Home Assistant knows what happened. The AI turns that into a short explanation, a helpful message, or a safe suggestion. You still decide what happens next.

I like a physical book for this because it slows the whole thing down in a good way. You can leave it open next to Home Assistant, circle an idea, write your own version in the margin, and come back later. It is harder to lose a paper page in a browser tab avalanche. I have tested this theory against my own tab collection. The tabs won, but only barely.

The basic idea behind Home Assistant AI Recipes is deliberately boring in the best possible way: Home Assistant gathers the facts, the AI gets one clear job, and you receive something you can understand. The official Home Assistant project is the platform underneath it all. The book is about practical ways to use that platform without turning your home into an unpaid science project.

The Home Assistant AI Recipes pattern is simple: let Home Assistant collect the facts, give AI one clear job, then keep the result useful and under your control.

Tired of reading?

I made a video about why Home Assistant AI Recipes became a real book, what is inside it, and why some international orders can cost me more than the reader pays. Watch it on YouTube. The video also has the short version of my advice: do not give the kettle admin rights.

If you prefer to keep reading, the important part is that the book is not a pile of vague AI promises. It is built around small jobs that make a smart home easier to live with.

Useful recipes beat clever demos

Home Assistant AI Recipes starts with a shared setup idea, then uses it for normal home questions. A Sun recipe can turn daylight information into a short daily note. A Weather recipe can turn a forecast full of numbers into advice such as whether you need a jacket or should care about the UV index. A Network Health recipe can help explain whether the internet is fine, having a small hiccup, or acting like it has found a new hobby.

There are also ideas for air quality, camera snapshots, moon information, and the pattern behind making your own recipe. The point is not to copy my house. My home has its own strange habits. The point is to take the same simple pattern and make it fit your sensors, routines, climate, and family.

One Home Assistant AI Recipes example turns weather data into plain advice instead of making you decode a row of forecast numbers before coffee.

I am not interested in using AI just because it can make an answer longer. For this kind of Home Assistant AI work, shorter is usually better. Give it the right facts. Ask it one question. Keep the answer readable. Then check the result before you build a bigger automation around it.

Start small and keep the human in charge

Home Assistant AI Recipes does not ask you to train a model or buy a spaceship computer on day one. You can use local models, cloud models, or a mix of both. Local models keep more of the work near your home but need suitable hardware. Cloud models can be easier to begin with, but they send data outside your home and may cost money. There is no single correct answer for every setup.

The book also connects with the free Ollama-HA App. That app helps make local Ollama models, cloud models, or both usable in Home Assistant automations and scripts. The app is the bridge. Home Assistant AI Recipes is the set of practical things you can build after you cross it.

Camera ideas need the same restraint. AI can help describe what it sees, but it is not a judge, a police officer, or a magic truth machine. Keep normal recordings, notifications, and your own eyes in the loop. The same goes for every recipe in the book. A useful smart home helps you decide. It should not quietly take over because a sentence sounded confident.

What free means for this book

Home Assistant AI Recipes is free from me. You cover the real-world work needed to turn it into paper and get it to your door: printing, handling, and shipping. Those costs change by country, distance, carrier, and the usual small print that somehow follows every cardboard box around the world.

I am saying this clearly because I do not want to play games with the word “free.” On some orders, the fulfillment cost is higher than the amount collected for handling and shipping. On others, only a small amount remains before payment fees. I am still looking for a better way to print and send the book worldwide, because I would rather make the physical copy cheaper for more people.

Home Assistant AI Recipes is free from me. Printing, handling, and shipping are the real costs that readers cover to receive a physical copy.

There is also a shipping update expected after October 28 in some parts of the world. The exact difference depends on the route and order, so I will not pretend I know the final amount for every country. If you already wanted the book, check the book page before then. If you are reading this later, use the current amount shown there. A clear choice is better than a checkout surprise.

Want the physical copy?

If learning Home Assistant AI recipes from a real book sounds better than opening another tab, get the physical copy. It is free from me, and it may be the one book that makes your server look more organised than your kitchen drawer.
